Drink Up!

I don't think I am alone in saying it can be difficult to drink enough water. If I keep my water bottle close (and five thieves from stealing it), I do a better job of drinking the prescribed "healthy" daily intake of water. When I'm in a good routine, I can usually get the job done.

But for some reason, during times of celebration and holidays, I give myself permission to drink more than my share of bad things for my body! In "bad things," I mean exorbitant amounts of Dr. Pepper and coffee loaded with cream and sugar. In fact, this permission usually leads me back to the habit of drinking these things daily. I can literally feel my body get more sluggish the more I pour in. Inevitably, I go back to an "only water" drinking habit, but it usually takes me a week to buckle down again.

This morning, as I felt the sluggishness of my sugar, caffeine overload, I was thinking about how much better I feel when I drink only water. I have more energy, I feel refreshed, and I even seem to be able to resist other snacks more consistently.

There is no mistaking why the Holy Spirit is called "Living Water." There is no mistaking why Ephesians says, "Don't be drunk with wine [or Dr. Pepper!] because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ."

When I am drinking deep of the Holy Spirit and not other things that can consume my mind, spirit and body, I have more energy, feel more refreshed and can even resist other "snacks" more consistently. I know this "drinking deep" will translate differently in to every one's life, but translate it, nonetheless. I know you will find greater refreshment, energy, and fortitude when you do. Drink up, friend!
