The other day, I got a phone call from a friend who needed some financial help. We were a bit tight on our budget and I wasn't sure what to do. So I asked Abiel to pray and see if she could hear what the Lord was saying about the situation, since I felt like I couldn't hear clearly at the moment. She listened for a bit and then said, "Well, Jesus said that you're supposed to do what you can, and what you can't do, can't be helped."
"Ok, well, what CAN I do? Can you ask him that?" Then she listened again and heard a number just a bit bigger than our friends had asked for.
This confirmed in my heart that I needed to help them with this particular need. Meanwhile, the boys, whom typically don't have very generous spirits, were in their bedroom getting out their money jars. Judah, not knowing what just transpired with Abiel and I, came bounding out of the room with pockets full of his coins, giving them away to everyone in the house!! This was absolutely NOT his normal behavior!
As I observed Judah, I knew what was happening. I had just responded to a situation with a spirit of generosity and this impacted the atmosphere in our home. Judah was simply responding to the spirit of generosity released over our home by being generous with the little that he had.
I am quite sure that we are able to impact the atmosphere around us much more powerfully than we realize. Most of the time, I think we allow the atmosphere to impact us more than we consciously impact it. Since this eye opening event, I am becoming increasingly aware of what I am releasing into the atmosphere . . . wherever I am or go! Try it out and see!
