"It is what it is." I've been thinking about this phrase a lot lately. Events in our lives don't necessarily need to be deemed as good or bad, but they are what they are. How I respond to them is what matters. If I determine an event is bad and react in anger or frustration, I simply help to create strife and tension. If I see the event as neutral, I get to choose to respond with joy, forgiveness, or in peace and bring life into a potentially difficult situation.
I've had many events in the last month that I've heard my friend's voice in my head saying, "It is what it is." Like when our van broke down on the way up the mountain. Or when the insurance company won't pay a large bill from December. Or when we can't find a camping spot for our last minute getaway. Or when the kids are watching more movies than they "should" watch in a week! As I take the perspective of "it is what it is," I'm learning not to let the events dictate how I will respond. Onward and Upward. Further up and further in. Life is what it is and I want to bring the Kingdom to reign in all situations around me and IN ME. In choosing to see events in light of "it is what it is," I'm able to think more clearly and choose my responses more appropriately rather than react.
It is what it is. And I can make of it what I choose to make of it! Happy summer days to you.

Thank you, Em. I needed to hear that today....actually I need to hear that EVERY day. It IS always my choice to decide how to respond to circumstances. God is in ME, creating the ability to do impossible things, not in my circumstances.
love you.
